Sabercat Announcements!
If you’re planning to attend the East Valley Institute of Technology during the next school year (2015-16), your completed application must be received in the Guidance Office by Thursday, January 15th.  EVIT Advisors will be on the Saguaro Campus on Tuesday, January 20th and passes will be sent to all students with completed applications. 
All EVIT programs use the same application, except for Cosmetology.  Both applications are available in the Saguaro Guidance Office.  For Cosmetology, the completed applications must be hand delivered directly to EVIT starting January 5th through February 28th and this program fills up quickly, so apply as early as possible.  If you have questions, please see your Guidance Counselor.

Saguaro Student Named Gatorade Arizona Player of the Year
The Gatorade Company, in collaboration with USA TODAY High School Sports, has named Christian Kirk of Saguaro High School as the 2014-15 Gatorade Arizona Football Player of the Year. Christian is the fourth Gatorade Arizona Football Player of the Year chosen from Saguaro High School.
According to the Gatorade Company, the award recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character, demonstrated on and off the field.  These qualities distinguish Christian as Arizona’s best high school football player. Christian is a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Football Player of the Year award announced later this month. Good luck!
It's never too early to make a contribution that can be claimed when you file your
2014 State tax return.

Did you know that Arizona law allows taxpayers to receive a dollar for dollar tax credit of up to $200 for individual filers and up to $400 for married filers for contributions made to SUSD schools? You can claim the tax credit when filing your 2014 Arizona State Income Tax return
Your contribution must be postmarked or received online by December 31, 2014. It's a win, win situation for you and the school!

Contributions can be made by cash, check, or online. Recurring online payments are now an option as well.  Please print and fill out the Tax Credit Form if you are paying by cash or check. Checks should be made payable to Scottsdale Unified School District and can be mailed directly to the school or to the Education Center located at 3811 N. 44th Street Phoenix, AZ 85018.  

Your tax credit can be used for:
  • Tutoring
  • Field trips
  • Enrichment programs
  • Athletic programs
* If the program isn't listed on the Tax Credit form, please write in the program under other.

How to make a Tax Credit contribution Online
1. Click > Online Payment or visit
2. Enter your Customer Information
3. Select the School from the drop down box
4. Select the Item from the drop down box
5. Enter a memo or student name (not required)
6. Enter Amount
7. Click > ADD
8. You may select another School and Item
9. When finished Click > Pay
10. Enter payment information
11. Click > Submit

How to set up Recurring Online Payments
1. Click > Online Payment or visit
2. Click > Click here to make a Tax Credit Contribution or Sign In using contributor user name and password.  Do not sign in using a student sign in.  
3. Click > Home - located in the upper left hand corner  
4. Click > Add/Edit Recurring Purchases - located on right side  
5. Click > +New Recurring Purchases  
6. Select > School and Tax Credit Item  
7. Select > Amount - Note amount is the amount per recurring payment not the total amount to contribute  
8. Select > Payment Period - Weekly, Monthly, Every Two Weeks  
9. Complete the purchase and payment information  
10. Click > Save button

Course Selection-current Mohave Students
Date:Wednesday, January 7th and return on Friday, January 16, 2015
Time: During Science Class
Location: Mohave Middle School
Purpose: On January 7th, Saguaro High School Guidance Counselors will meet with students and review the course selection process. The guidance counselors will then return to Mohave on January 16th to review and enter student course selections.

Each student is required to have an updated grade print out with their course selection paperwork.

Course Selection for Open Enrolled or Non Mohave Students
Please contact the Guidance Department at 480-484-7149 after your District paperwork has been completed.

Math and Science Academy Parent Informational Meeting
Date: Wednesday, January 7, 2015
Time: 6:30-7:30 PM
Location: Saguaro High School Community Room
Purpose: This is a rigorous and unique program with an emphasis in Math and Science with an infusion of technology. This program is designed specifically to meet the needs of academically motivated and dedicated students.

Location: Saguaro High School Auditorium
Purpose: Come find out what we have to offer and learn why Saguaro is the best choice for your child's education! Students Welcome.

Time: 8:30-11:00 AM
Location: Saguaro High School
Purpose: Students will take a field trip to Saguaro High School. The event will start with an assembly which includes performances by our choir and dance departments. Students will then tour the school and participate in some fun activities.

Saguaro Wins Div III Football State Championship


Saguaro Wins Division III Football Title
Saguaro High School topped off its football season by winning the Division III State Championship with a 45-21 victory against Williams Field High School on November 29th in the title game at ASU’s Sun Devil Stadium. This is Saguaro’s eighth state championship since 2006. Congratulations to the Saguaro Sabercats football team, coach Jason Mohns and the athletic staff!

2 Saguaro Students Earn Perfect ACT Score
Two seniors from Saguaro High school have earned a top composite score of 36 on a recent ACT test. The students who earned this achievement Harrison and Jontito Casalena. “We are extremely proud that Harrison and Jontito earned this amazing achievement,” said Dr. Mitch von Gnechten, executive director of Secondary Schools. Construction update

City of Scottsdale Water Treatment Plant Construction Update

The second phase of work continues on improvements at the city water facility located adjacent to the canal at the end of 82nd St. This facility takes water from the Arizona Canal and sends it to the Chaparral Water Treatment Plant on
McDonald Drive.

Construction vehicles will be driving through the neighborhood between the hours of 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays.
All speed limits, including school zones will be followed. Construction vehicles will also be working at the facility and will follow the city's noise ordinances.

Temporary closure of the Multi-Use Path from 82nd Street to the Canal may be required for safety purposes from time to time. Advance notice will be provided at the path entrance south of the canal. Please use extra caution in the area.

This phase of the project is expected to take approximately six months to complete.
